Meandering into March

I can’t believe it’s March and I haven’t posted anything since the new year.  Good grief.  I’ll admit, the new year started off rough, but that is no excuse.  It’s likely more accurate to say I’m easily distracted. Well, maybe not since most people know me as tenacious as a bulldog chasing a rabbit.  Either way, here I am back at it.  Honestly, it’s more like I didn’t think I had anything to say and not being familiar with being at a loss for words, I left it alone.

At any rate, here I am at the gallery, watching the blue sky give way to gray and seeing tiny little flakes float gently to the ground.  I actually wish it would just let go and snow…really snow so all the lovers of Spring skiing will have more fun.  Spring break is not all that far away.  So, let it snow.

It has been actually a very mild winter…albeit a couple weeks of outrageous cold wrecked the heating budget.  The coldest morning, I looked at the thermometer with shock.  It read “error”.  “Error?”  Turned the battery on the transmitter just couldn’t handle it.  I guess I don’t blame it…I didn’t want to crawl out of bed.  -47.  Good heavens.  It brought back memories of high school and Delta Junction, Alaska.  “No thanks”, I said.  “I’m not going anywhere”.

I have been in the studio in my silence.  A few nice pieces came out in the end.  Here’s a look:

Acrylic

Acrylic (Sold)

Scratch board
Pastel

At least I was productive!  The next studio time comes on Sunday.  The first thing I’ll do is finish the scratch board roses.  Facebook friends voted to leave them white, so I’ll just add a few blue hues in the shadows and green in the stems and buds. After that I have 4 paintings to do for customers.  So, I’ll be busy for a while! Nothing wrong with that picture!  And, I’ll do my best to get back here before another quarter passes!

Good Grief Time Flies!

Wow, I sincerely cannot believe it has been more than a month since I last posted. I’ve been painting when at home studio and cleaning up/rearranging the gallery, when I’m here. That’s where I am now. Working on getting all my online stuff up to date. Egad! I forgot I have a MySpace page! and I haven’t posted a new video in awhile, though I have several recorded. I need to clone myself so I can keep up! Now it’s headlong into summer and ArtsFest, Theatre, Music and on and on.

Before I get there, though, I’m participating in the AAFPO weekend Retail Association Sale. I’ll be doing live demos at the Enchanted Home Design Center on Saturday the 12th. Can you hear the wind blowing as zoom ahead? Time to catch my breath and move on!

In the mean time, I have done a few more paintings, in case you don’t follow me on Facebook, here are a few:
“So Sleepy, so so sleepy” 12 x 6 Acrylic on Panel
“What? Sun’s Up Already?” 12 x 6 Acrylic on Panel.

Detecting a trend? Yes, personal reflection. Sleep has been elusive. No wonder I’m brain dead.
Here’s one more. It is 12 x 12, on the diagonal (duh). I call it: “The Welcoming Committee”
Cheers all, and head to Angel Fire soon!

Been a while, but got a new video!

Hi. I know, it’s been a while. I normally post on Sundays, but the past few I’ve been traveling. Playing catch up now. At any rate, I did manage to get a new Watercolor Technique video out. Jacqui Binford-Bell stopped by the gallery to show us how she pours watercolor on canvas…and believe me, it’s not what you might think! Take a look:

She’s already sent me photos of her progress and process so there will be a follow up shortly so you can see the finished piece. In the meantime, catch Jacqui at the New Mexico Arts and Crafts Fair and the Expo New Mexico State Fair Grounds, this weekend. I imagine she’s already this piece popped in a frame to have on display at the show.

Also, this Friday is the monthly Fourth Friday Reception. I’m featuring the work of local Shirley Ellingboe, the newest addition to my gallery. I still recall the days when she was giggling through watercolor class…and then she just took off! Now she’s mostly working in oil and that’s what I have for the show. If you’re in Angel Fire come out on Friday, starting at 5.

Also new at the gallery is some really awesome new abstracts from Kevin McDermott…and no, we’re not related, at least as far we know. Take a look. They are all unique, and interesting and beautiful, if a bit fragile (at the corners.) I really love this one:

Isn’t it gorgeous? It is 24x 18, and framed. Mixed Media and acrylic. He’s really pushing the envelope and each one is better and better. And this one, on the right is stunning as well. The depth of color and textures and simply delicious! Believe it or not, he brought me a dozen new works in this genre!

Please feel free to comment on the video …and anything else here! See ya next time!
