Harumph. Cogs in the Wheel of Economic Development

Good grief. It’s nearly halfway through 2008. One would think that cell service and access to it, reliably, should be a no-brainer…only a complex plate of choice.

Alas, not so. I learned today that my provider for the past year or so will terminate our accounts as of this time next month. Why? Late payments? NO. Apparently, we roam too much. No, that doesn’t mean we travel all the time. We roam where we live. We roam at the Gallery. We roam in Angel Fire, Eagle Nest and in between. We ran in to this problem before, not that long ago. After 20 some odd years as a Verizon customer, they informed us they would no longer provide service in our area. In that case, it’s NOT THE NETWORK. I’m not just annoyed. I’m a few steps beyond that. I dialed the 800 number on the letter. The customer service rep I spoke to said, “Yes, I would be very upset too. But it is just a business decision.” I said, “When is it good business to alienate and terminate hundreds, maybe thousands of customers?” She said, “Well those roaming charges we pay with some company called ‘Plateau Cellular’ are so high it is unprofitable.” Not wanting to unload on her (not her fault), I decided to blog. GRUUURUURUR. Two steps forward, three steps back. It’s bad for locals, and it’s bad for our visitors who come with bluetooth headsets on the ear, but no signal on the phone.

It’s 2008. Give me a break.

What about New Mexico

Four times I tried to post on Fox News site. Four times ignored. here’s the last one: Britt Hume, How Dare You!!???? You just smirked that you’d called all the races but Alaska. WHAT ABOUT NEW MEXICO? I’ve tried 4 times now to post here. NEW MEXICO gets LEFT OUT!
ENOUGH ALREADY. It’s real clear politics. Stay home, New Mexico. It doesn’t matter.

Ever read “One of our fifty is missing?” Really true in National Politics. Get rid of “winner takes all”. Come on New Mexicans…TAKE A STAND! MAKE OUR VOICE HEARD! As soon as Governor Richardson stepped aside as a candidate, our 15 minutes was done. Not that the PRESS gave him the time of day. I Know the Republicans didn’t vote today..but the Dems did. Good grief. Disgusting.

Hello Everyone!

Well, I’ve gone and done it! Perhaps a late bloomer but here goes with the blogging thing. As I type this first post it is snowing like mad…mostly horizontally from all the accompanying wind. April 13th and ooohh for spring time to really arrive! The gallery is quiet, the streets bare sans the blowing snow and ice. Once I press publish, I think I’ll venture out and head home for a quiet evening with husband and dog.

While I’m new at this, I surely have plenty to say….those who know me, know that well. I am an artist, gallery owner and passionate about the arts. My gallery is the only one in this tiny but growing resort town, some 8500 feet in the mountains of Northern New Mexico. This winter (supposedly past, but reluctant to release us from its frosty grip) was a series of blasting storms. Great for skiers? Yes, if they could get here…or get out of their driveways. The first hit dropped some 58 inches and if you were here, you were stuck, if not, you couldn’t get here. Winter roared in like a lion…and hasn’t really been satisfied to a purr…at least not yet. What’s good for the mountain is apparently not good for the gallery. To say it’s been rough would be an understatement. Three weeks in January we were closed simply because no one could get here to open!

More on that later. Time for me to turn out the lights and head for home. If you find this, then please check out my gallery website at www.angelfireartspace.com
