This is AWESOME! Be sure to watch it closely, and all the way through!
The wind is howling today…is it blowing in Spring…or bringing much needed snow? With Spring Break looming…we’re all praying for snow, though personally, I’m ready for summer. I’d just as soon skip the spring winds and warm today-cold tomorrow cycle we often get. I guess we’ll see.
In the meantime, I told you I’d post a video gallery tour….so here it is. It’s in two parts because YouTube has a limit of 10 minutes per video…and it came in at 12, so I had to split it into two. So, if you haven’t seen the new space…or haven’t seen it in a while, take a peek now.
I have my bail out blinders on. Can’t stand to listen to the news anymore. Spend, spend, spend and benefit a few, but not any of us who do the right thing, fight like hell to pay the mortgage on time, borrow from peter to pay paul every day of the month, struggling to keep that credit score well above 7. There will be nothing for us. Once again penalized by the politicians for being a stand up person and doing the right thing. It makes me sick.
I called the mortgage company, to see if they’d work out a lower rate. Nothing doing. Know why? because I’m not behind. I can’t refinance because I’d never qualify in the current credit debacle, so, because I’ve done the right thing, I’m screwed. How upside down is that!?!
Deep sigh. Ok, I’m done with the rant. I’ll turn my thoughts back to the task at hand which is the development of www.katherinesarttv.tv and www.myarttv.tv (not up yet). I’m recording everything I do every time I pick up a pencil or a brush. My camera’s hard drive is almost full, so probably this week I’ll start editing video. While it is time consuming work, I’m excited when I’m at that because I’m excited about these sites and getting them fully operational. From the 10 or 12 hours I have recorded right now, I’ll probably get 3 or 4 videos, all on watercolor. In the next set I’ll focus on fun techniques but that’s probably at least a week off.
It’s way more soothing to ponder watercolor, and better yet to pick up that brush. Unfortunately my home studio is still a disaster zone and my brushes and paints are at the gallery. I guess that’s ok, because the dryer is beconning. Back to domestic duty. Important stuff, you know, laundry. So off I go.
I told you, I’m having crazy fun with this! Here is #2:
So, yes, I fully intend to do this for each of the artists in my gallery. And keep in mind, that is something that changes regularly, so this could go for a long time. This week, as an example, one artist left, and I added a new one. Why does an artist leave the gallery? Most of the time it’s due to the fact that the work just isn’t selling…meaning it’s just not quite right for my current market. Bear in mind, the market also changes, as the tastes, desires and needs of the market fluctuate. Staying in tune with that requires an ongoing investment in understand my clients and customers. I want and to be able to understand what you are looking for, even when you may not know. Understanding human nature, and what effects us can only come from a heartfelt thirst to experience and share in the community. Careful understanding of who I am, what’s in me and what effects me is a core part of that. If I don’t know who I am, how can I possible come to know who you are and fully enter into that relationship? It’s an ever emerging process and experience.
One thing I came away from the conference (New Beginnings. LIVE! with Rich Schefren) with is the realization that I don’t have to wait till I’m perfect to enter in. In fact, I can’t, since that won’t happen in my life time. Gary Vaynerchuk (www.winelibrary.com guru) said it best. Know who you are, then be there, just as you are, zits and all. (paraphrase, but you get the idea). Thanks, Gary. I never would have tried the video thing if he hadn’t gotten that through my extraordinarily thick head. Passion is great, but it’s nothing without embracing the whole.
I am still so blown away by that conference and the intense work I’ve been doing as a result. It’s real. Paradigm shifting, life altering. If you haven’t figured out what I’ve been talking about for the last month yet, click here to read about it.
As I close this post, let me extend the invitation again…Please comment. I’m not writing a diatribe. I want to hear from you!
Another glorious spring day at 8500 feet…and perhaps the inordinately early monsoons have given up for a while. And, after many hours and a phone growing from ear, Dell is finally doing the right thing and sending me a new laptop. My fingers are crossed that the interminable blue screens will be left just a fleeting memory, and I can reliably get on to major website renovations and the development of new ones. Speaking of that, I got a full preview of the upcoming Video project “How to Paint Poppies That Pop!” and wow am I excited! Just over an hour in length it’s a full lesson from the what materials to buy to the drawing through the painting of one of those poppin’ poppies I’m known for. I have high hopes for this and once I’m satisfied with sales we’ll do another. I was lucky to find a wonderful videographer, Michael Turri of Turri Productions to help put together a profession video. I have a whole series brewing in my head!
If reviews from my “in person” students is any indication it should go well. (Click here to go to my classes page to see what some of them had to say.)
So…when will it be out? I’m hoping by early July. Believe me, if you read this blog, or get my newsletter, you’ll know when its available and how to get it. OR…..order early and get yours as soon as they come out! The DVD is only $49.99 (introductory price). Click here to order yours now!
Between now and then don’t miss the next Fourth Friday Reception at the Gallery. This Friday, May 25, 5pm – 9pm we’ll be featuring the new works of local favorite Ms. Jacqui Binford-Bell. All whimsy you’ve seen in her masks are now in her new works in water media. Here’s one to wet your appetite. This is called “Trail to Arsenic Springs”. Don’t you just love the color and design of this? I do. And there are many more that you’ll be able to see front and center on Friday night.
Can’t make it? Let me know right away and I’ll do my best to get a selection on-line.
